Fields of Mistria Relationships and Gifting Guide

How hearts, dating, marriage, and gifting work in Fields of Mistria — all 12 romance candidates with birthdays, loved gifts, and hated items.

Relationships in Fields of Mistria run on a Heart system: you raise hearts with every villager by talking to them and giving gifts, and reaching 8 Hearts unlocks dating with a romanceable character. The 1.0 update raised the NPC heart cap to 10 and added Proposal & Wedding events plus marriage and children, so the full romance arc now exists. The game ships 12 marriage candidates (10 story-introduced bachelors and bachelorettes plus secret ones you unlock through play), and the official FAQ confirms marriage candidates are not gender-locked — you can pursue any of them regardless of your character's gender.

How Hearts Work

  • Talk to a character and give them a gift once per day; Kotaku's tips guide notes Mistria's villagers have unusually varied things to say, and talking to them repeatedly raises affection faster than you'd expect.
  • Characters have dialogue tiers per heart level; a heart event triggers the day after you cross a threshold. Getting from dating-ineligible to 8 hearts takes real consistency — one update-preview reviewer noted it can take two or more in-game weeks per character if you're spreading gifts around.
  • At 1.0, the cap went from 8 to 10 hearts: 9 and 10 Heart events lead to the Proposal and Wedding, and married couples can have children.
  • Gifting categories run from Loved → Liked → Neutral → Disliked, with some characters hating specific items. Junk, bugs (with exceptions!), and "weird gifts" backfire on most villagers.
  • Elsie the gossip is your in-game wiki: after her quest, you can gossip with her once per day to reveal one liked or loved gift for a character (reported by the Jinxed Moth dating-update reviewer).
  • Villagers drop hint dialogue in the world too — museum donations, Saturday Market food-cart chatter, and quest hints all telegraph gift preferences.

The official store page's romance section shows ten named faces plus two silhouetted "mystery" slots, and The Mines Update (early 2026) added "Secret Bachelorette" content with her own 8-heart event and dates. GameRant's countdown ranks Seridia at #3, and reviewers hint another secret is tied to interacting with the dragon statue of Caldarus ("if you want to get a little nasty with the dragon statue, you can"). Exact identities of the remaining secret candidates: (to be confirmed) in our sources.

Unlocking Seridia

Seridia, the Priestess, is a late-game route: her romance requires reaching Floor 100 of the Mines to complete her questline — and to start it you first need 8 Hearts with both Juniper and Eiland. Her gift list is dragon-themed, with the ironic exception of dragon claws and scales, which she despises.

Gifting Strategy That Actually Works

  1. Talk daily, gift daily. Every candidate benefits from consistent contact; heart events fire the day after you level up.
  2. Cook for them. Several loved gifts are cooked dishes (Apple Honey Curry, Sushi Platter, Summer Salad), so the Cooking skill doubles as a relationship engine — cooked goods also sell high, so nothing is wasted.
  3. Mine for them. Perfect ores and gemstones (Perfect Copper Ore, Pink Diamond, Perfect Ruby) are loved by March, Adeline, and Balor; golden products (Golden Ingot, Golden Butter, Golden Feather, Golden Cookies) are loved across nearly everyone's list.
  4. Check item tooltips and the Relationships tab — the in-game UI tracks which liked/loved gifts you've discovered (revealed via Elsie gossip or by giving them).
  5. Never gift the Hated item and skip junk/bug gifts unless you know a specific character wants them (the kid Luke loves bugs, per an EA reviewer's note).

Dating Rules After the Romance Update

  • Reaching 8 hearts and triggering the confession event starts dating; the next day Elsie visits to explain dates and "date inspiration" items.
  • You can date multiple characters at once. There's no jealousy dialogue — and no breakup or friend-zone switch either, so choices are sticky until marriage.
  • Two dates per week max, and not back-to-back days with the same person. Dates end with a photo you can hang up (photos can't be deleted, the reviewer warns).
  • Date locations unlock through play: picnic in the Deep Woods and inn dining come early; the bathhouse date requires a certain 100,000-tesserae bar of soap; beach dates come from ocean fishing, park dates from digging on the Eastern Road, and a gem-cutting date from a random Mines treasure chest. The shooting star festival adds a brooch that opens another outing.
  • When you do marry (10 hearts, post-1.0), it's one partner only — and with children, your farm becomes a full household.
  • Friendship isn't romance: best-friend routes exist with unique dialogue, but (per the same reviewer's testing) they don't include dates or photos. (to be confirmed whether hangouts are added later.)

Beyond Romance: The Whole Town

With 30+ villagers, relationships extend past the bachelors. Non-romanceable characters drive the story: kids like Luke (bug enthusiast) start side systems, older villagers teach you their trades through quest cutscenes, and the Friday night saloon crowd runs serialized conversations — card games, drinking gossip, and a D&D-style campaign that can play out across a whole season. The wiki sorts the cast into Romanceable, Non-Romanceable, Saturday Market Vendors, and Special Characters — and Hayden's prize hen Henrietta is practically a character in her own right, jealous of any attention Hayden gives you.
